34th IASP Annual World Conference held in Istanbul, Turkey from 26th to 29th September marking IASP’s thirty four years of accumulating and sharing knowledge on global and local innovation ecosystems. IASP is the worldwide network of science parks and areas of innovation. It is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, as well as being a founding member of the World Alliance for Innovation – WAINOVA. This year’s conference was outlined to articulate the future strategy for science parks all around the world and how this industry can accelerate its contribution to the global economic development through innovation, entrepreneurship and the transfer of knowledge and technology. As Lahore Knowledge Park is one of the members of IASP (International Association of Science Parks & Areas of Innovation), CEO LKPC, Dr. Zubair Iqbal Ghouri attended 34th IASP Annual World Conference. As a speaker in the pitch session, Dr. Zubair specifically spoke about Pakistan as an emerging Knowledge Economy. He also talked about the vision and interventions of Lahore Knowledge Park to drive a globally connected innovation ecosystem for Pakistan. The global gathering was thronged with delegates from science parks and innovation clusters, sharing some of the most disruptive ideas and initiatives.
As part of company’s international outreach drive, Dr. Zubair Iqbal Ghouri, CEO LKPC held meetings with senior representatives of Middle East Technical University (METU) and ODTU. TEKNOKENT in Turkey. The meetings held in continuation to the preliminary discussions with the delegation from TIKA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency) at the office of LKPC in July 2017. The purpose of the meeting was to explore the opportunities of partnership with the Turkish varsity and technology park to establish a university at Lahore Knowledge Park.
Defense Day Commemoration Ceremony was held at College of Arts & Design, University of the Punjab, on September 20, 2017 to commemorate the valor of our soldiers with which they successfully defended their homeland in 1965. Dr. Zubair Iqbal Ghouri, CEO LKPC attended the ceremony as Guest of Honor. Vice Chancellor Punjab University, Professor Dr. Zafar Moeen was the Chief Guest at the event. Ceremony was attended by luminaries from academia, national security forces and representatives from social sector.
Team of LKPC held a meeting with BEIHANG University, China to explore the prospects of partnership with Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC) to setup its campus at Lahore Knowledge Park (LKP). A virtual discussion was setup on September 7th, 2017 which was joined by Prof. WENG Jinong, Dean of International School, Ms. LU Ying, Deputy Director of International Division, Mr. SU Li, Chief of General Affairs Office, International School and Mr. CAO Qizheng, Program Manager of International Division from BEIHANG University. The discussion was led by Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, member Academic Affairs Committee, LKPC and Dr. Zubair Iqbal Ghouri, Chief Executive Officer, LKPC. Discussion involved evaluating the various models through which BEIHANG can become part of the prospective initiative of LKPC to establish Pak-China University at Lahore Knowledge Park. Representatives from the Chinese University showed keen interest in joining hands with LKPC. Meeting resolved on a note of gratitude from both parties and with the affirmation to take preliminary discussion forward to the stage of planning.
Pursuing the strategic objectives, LKPC’s outreach team held talks with Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Asghar, Senior Representative from the CPEC unit of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. Session involved exploring the prospects of hosting Pak-China University at LKP under CPEC Knowledge Corridor. Both parties exchanged views on the ways Pakistan’s geopolitical significance has been enhanced through CPEC and the pertinent importance of knowledge exchange between the two countries. Dr. Zubair Iqbal Ghouri, CEO LKPC highlighted the salient features of LKP signifying it as a catalyst to revive the avenues of higher education in the country. Both parties reviewed partnership options to be taken-up with Chinese institutions and identified Engineering, Applied Sciences and ICT as potential academic disciplines to collaborate with Chinese Academic Institutions. Discussion concluded with the plan to hold meetings with delegations of high-ranking Chinese universities in the month of September, 2017 in Islamabad at an event arranged by HEC.
